IN COOPERATION WITH HAIFA UNIVERSITY

Haifa, 3 to 6 July 2006

INVITATION

We warmly invite you to participate in the historical World Congress of Jews from Egypt

With the collaboration of the worldwide various Organizations of "Jews from Egypt", it was decided to approach institutions and organizations, in Israel and abroad, to enlist their support (including financial), for the realization of a successful and fruitful "World Congress of the Jews from Egypt" (3 - 6 July, 2006 in Haifa).

One of the principal aims of this important Congress, as President Ada Aharoni expressed it, is: "To enrich the general 'Jewish Heritage Tree' with a fresh, rich "Jews from Egypt" cultural branch full of new sprouts and green leaves."  All members of the "International Committee", representing the various world organizations, are called upon to take part in this important action.

We are the "Last Mohicans" of the Jews from Egypt, who can save our ancient and wonderful heritage from dwindling and disappearing, and this World Congress will be a corner stone toward this aim. It will also provide the opportunity to present our experience of co-existence and harmony with our Arab neighbors in Egypt (prior to 1948), as an example toward the contribution of harmony in Israel and peace with its neighbors.

VISION AND HISTORY

As all great projects, it began with a dream, a vision and desire to gather in Israel all the World Organizations of Jews from Egyptian origin. Step by step, this project grew up and became a concrete reality. On July 27 2004, the two initiators, Ada Aharoni and Jacques Perez, met to discuss the main points of the congress.

The congress title is “JEWS FROM EGYPT AND PEACE”. This title is a whole program. It is the basic element for all future actions, and a guideline for all decisions.

This is a one-time event, and not an ongoing organization. During the first meetings, it was decided on the creation of the 3 instances described below.

1-   CONGRESS MANAGING COMMITTEE”:

This committee includes 9 members. It is the Organization Committee of the congress. Its function is to organize the whole congress, based on the official CHARTER, in which are stipulated the main goals of the project. It is the unique instance responsible to program, manage and execute in detail all the activities filling the 4 days of the congress.

 2-   CONGRESS EXECUTIVE COUNCIL”:

The Managing committee for executing the goals of this grandiose project created this council. The 20 members of this council are nominated by the Managing committee to help them organize such an ambitious and time-consuming project. As its name indicates, its function is to execute the committee decisions included in the Charter, endorse the operational plan and program, creation of different specific and professional committees. It is important to note that all the members of the committee and council, work on a voluntary base, and have only one goal in mind: The success of the congress.

3-   CONGRESS INTERNATIONAL BOARD”:

The Managing Committee also decided to establish an International Board, to gain from the advice and experience of the various Organizations of Jews from Egypt, in the Diaspora, work together in a cooperative spirit and reinforce the union existing between Jews in Israel and abroad.
