PROTOCOL No.3

 

The Third Congress Committee Meeting was held on Thursday October 4, 2004 at 17.45 in Kiryat Ata.

 Present:  Prof.Ada Aharoni, Jacques Perez, Marlene Peretz and Andree Habif.

 

 Following a constructive and interactive discussion the following decisions were agreed upon:

 

 1 Approval by the Committee of finalized Minutes no.2.

 

2  The tasks listed below were assigned as follows:

 

  a) To approach the Chancellor of the University of Haifa  and the Dean of  various Faculties to request their cooperation for the Congress.

 

 Action:    Ada  approached them on the phone and a letter will be sent out shortly.     

 

  b) To invite  Mr. Avner Assael, the Chairman of the "Goshen Association of Jews from Egypt" in Haifa, to be a member of the Advisory international board.

 

Action:  Ada approached  Mr.Avner Assael who responded  positively. He and his wife Grazia are invited to attend the next committee meeting.

 

c) Approach the chairman of K.K.L. (Keren Kayemet le-Israel), Mr. Yehiel Leket, to explore the possibilities of      planting a forest/wood, during the Congress, on Mount Carmel commemorating the Jews from Egypt.  (Marlene)

 

Action: Marlene has approached KKL who responded positively.  A draft copy of the letter  addressed to the management is now ready. Marlene spoke to Mr. Yehiel Leket, and his reponse was enthusiastic. The members of the Congress will buy their own trees, and plant them in the new "Forest of the WCJE" on the last day of the Congress.

 

d) Approach the Postal Service regarding the issue of a special stamp commemorating the event of the WCJE        (Andree(

 

Action: A draft copy of the letter addressed to the Postal Service has been prepared and sent.

 

 e) Compile a list of Jews from Egypt: authors, scientists, artists, sculptors, journalists, politicians etc. All Members the "International Advisory Board"  are asked to help prepare this List.

 

Action:  The Compilation of this List has started.

 

 f) With the collaboration of the various International Organization of Jews from Egypt, it was decided to approach institutions and organizations, in Israel and abroad, to enlist their support, including financial, for the realisation of a successful and fruitful Congress.  One of our principal aims, as Pres. Ada Aharoni expressed it, is: "To enrich the  general 'Jewish Heritage Tree' with a new, rich "Jews from Egypt" cultural branch full of fresh sprouts and green leaves."

 

Action:  Efforts to enlist Jewish institutions and organizations all over the world to support the Congress, have started.   In Israel, by  Marlene , Jacques and our Treasurer: Avraham Peron, and abroad: Israel Bonan and Ada Aharoni.

 

All members of the "International Advisory Committee" are called upon to take part in this important action.  Israel Bonan is  taking steps to register  IFLAC: The International Forum for the Literature and Culture of Peace www.ifac.com and www.iflac.com/ada as a Charitable Organization in the US, and the WCJE as its project.

 

 g) To approach dignitaries in Israel and the world at large with a view  to enlisting their support for the preparation of the Congress.  (Ada and Jacques, and the International Advisory Committee)

 

 

List of proposed dignitaries: The President of Israel, Mr.Shimon Peres (Nobel Peace Prize), General Matan Vilnai (who originates from Egypt), the Egyptian Consul in Israel, the Chairman of the Jewish Agency, Mr.Yehiel Leket, chairman of KKL, the Egyptian Foreign Minister,   Mr. Elie Wiesel (Nobel Prize in Literature),  the artist Mr.George Mustachi (who originates from Alexandria), and  others... (Ada and Jacques and the International Advisory Board)

 

h) Start Planning the Program: Set up of Panels of researchers and historians on the History of the Jews from Egypt,  Roundtables, and  Workshops. (Ada, Andree, Israel, Avraham)

 

3 Approach Ted Nahmias and Sara Perez Kemp from Cambridge, England, to act as spokespersons in the UK on behalf of the Congress.

 

4  Invite the particpants to write their Memoirs and their own stories about their "Second Exodus" from Egypt for a planned book on the WCJE.   Andree Habif will collate the correspondence and interview them. Workshops and Roundtables of Ten, will be set up during the conference in which each participant will be requested to tell his/ her story, and  discuss issues related to their experiences.

 

5 To appoint a WCJE  Council of 20 People, and a deputy for each member of the Management Committee.

 

6 The next management committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday December 2, 2004 at 57 Horev Street, Haifa, at the home of Ada.    Tel: 04 8243230. 

 

 The First Meeting of the WCJE Council (that comprises the Management Committee), will be held on a weekend in February (in Caesaria?) and members from abroad are invited to participate.  More details will be provided later.
